Reasons For White Hair At Early Age: Our hair plays a significant role in shaping our personality as it influences how we feel about ourselves and how others perceive us. The appearance of white hair can be distressing as it impacts one's self-perception and confidence. Premature greying of hair has become a common concern nowadays, affecting individuals at an increasingly younger age.
Melanin, produced by pigment cells in hair follicles is responsible for hair colour. When melanin production is insufficient, discolouration occurs, leading to white or grey hair. While genetics can play a role, other factors also contribute to this condition. Here, we've compiled some common reasons or causes of white hair at an early age.
Reasons For White Hair At Early Age
Vitamin Deficiencies
Vitamin deficiencies, particularly B12, iron, copper and zinc can significantly contribute to premature white hair. These essential nutrients play a crucial role in melanin production and their deficiency can reduce hair pigmentation, leading to grey or white hair at an early age.
Chronic Stress
Chronic stress is a significant contributor to white hair. Prolonged stress triggers the release of free radicals which damage the hair follicles and disrupt melanin production. This leads to a decline in hair pigmentation, resulting in grey or white hair.
Smoking
Smoking is another significant cause of white hair at an early age. The toxins and chemicals present in tobacco smoke damage the hair follicles, leading to a reduction in melanin production. This results in grey or white hair, accelerating the ageing process and affecting overall appearance.

Autoimmune Diseases
Autoimmune diseases such as alopecia areata, vitiligo and thyroid disorders can also lead to white hair. These conditions trigger the immune system to attack the hair follicles and lead to the loss of pigment cells in hair.
Chemical-Laden Products
Chemical-laden hair products such as dyes, perms and relaxers also cause damage to your mane. Harsh chemicals strip the hair of its natural pigmentation, causing damage to the hair and leading to loss of melanin production, resulting in grey or white hair.
