World Earth Day 2025: Long Speech
Good morning esteemed teachers and students! Today we all are gathered here to celebrate a pivotal event i.e. World Earth Day. Earth Day, observed annually on April 22nd serves as a poignant reminder of our responsibility to safeguard the planet that cradles us. The inception of Earth Day dates back to 1969 when John McConnell, a visionary peace advocate proposed this concept at a UNESCO conference. The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970, and since then, it has become a global phenomenon with nations converging to pledge their commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. In 2016, over 120 countries including the UK, the US and China signed the Paris Agreement on Earth Day. This was an important step towards working together to protect the planet and create a cleaner future. As we reflect on the devastating impact of environmental disasters such as the 1969 Santa Barbara oil spill, we are reminded of the imperative to act. Today, as we celebrate Earth Day, let us renew our pledge to reduce, reuse and recycle, to conserve water, to plant trees and to eschew single-use plastics. Let us strive towards a future where our actions are guided by the principles of sustainability, equity and justice.
