Melinda Rose, a 12-year-old Canadian girl who was battling cancer, is credited with establishing World Rose Day. In 1994, Melinda got a diagnosis of Askin's tumor, one of the rarest blood malignancies. The physicians' prognosis for her was grim; they expected her to live for only a few weeks. Melinda exceeded expectations and lived for six more months despite the dismal prognosis, bringing joy and hope to other cancer sufferers in the process.
