Bajaj Auto, a renowned automobile manufacturer is gearing up to launch the world’s first CNG bike on June 18. This new Bajaj CNG motorcycle is expected to slash running costs by up to 50 per cent or more. Rajiv Bajaj, Bajaj Managing Director, shared this news at the recent launch event of the Pulsar NS400Z.
This development has sparked considerable interest among budget-conscious commuters, offering an affordable and eco-friendly option. However, there are still many details left unanswered about this upcoming CNG motorcycle. Now, some blueprints of the chassis have been leaked, shedding some more light on the upcoming CNG motorcycle.
The motorcycle will feature a sloper engine design similar to the popular Hero Splendor, likely with a displacement around 125cc, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. One of the most intriguing aspects is the placement of the CNG cylinder under the rider’s seat, cleverly tucked away and protected by the sturdy subframe of the bike. Metal braces integrated into the chassis will secure the CNG tank in place, enhancing safety by shielding it from potential impacts during accidents.
In terms of structure, the new Bajaj CNG motorcycle will utilise a robust tubular steel cradle frame chassis, standard telescopic fork at the front and dual rear shock absorbers. The traditional petrol tank has been retained, however, it is possible that it might be slightly smaller to accommodate the CNG cylinder, which extends slightly into the tank area.

While the petrol tank cap will be accessible as usual, the CNG tank’s filling port may require removing the seat. Some key details that are yet to be disclosed include the CNG tank’s capacity, the bike’s range per fill-up, weight distribution and the overall increase in weight compared to a regular 125cc commuter bike.
