To effectively investigate rising cyber and technical crimes in Bihar, the state government is set to strengthen its forensic infrastructure. As part of this, preparations to launch a Cyber Forensic Unit at the Forensic Science Laboratories (FSL) in Patna and Rajgir from March are in their final stages.
This information was provided by Parasnath, Additional Director General of Police (ADG) of the CID. ADG Parasnath stated that the number of cybercrimes is continuously increasing.

Consequently, the need for a special cyber forensic unit for the scientific examination of digital evidence was being felt. The launch of this unit at the Patna and Rajgir FSLs will expedite the investigation of crimes related to mobile phones, laptops, hard disks, social media, email, and other digital media. This will assist the police and investigative agencies in gathering concrete evidence in technical cases.
The ADG stated that the FSL network is being expanded not only in Patna and Rajgir but also in other parts of the state. This year, a target has been set to open six new Forensic Science Laboratories in Gaya, Bettiah, Munger, Saharsa, Purnia, and Chhapra.
The opening of these new FSLs will speed up the investigation of pending cases in the districts and will also reduce the time taken to receive reports. Meanwhile, in response to a question regarding the death of a NEET student at a girls' hostel in the Chitragupta Nagar police station area of Patna, ADG Parasnath stated that the FSL team has visited the scene and conducted an investigation. He said that the forensic investigation is crucial in this case, and the FSL report is expected within four to five days. Further action will be taken based on the report.
The ADG also clarified that this sensitive case is being monitored by an ADG-level officer from the weaker sections division to ensure there is no negligence in the investigation. He assured that the police and forensic agencies are investigating the matter with utmost seriousness and that the truth will be brought to light.
The expansion of FSL and Cyber Forensic Units in the state is being considered a major step towards strengthening law and order and the judicial process. This will not only help curb cybercrimes but will also aid in ensuring swift justice in serious cases based on scientific evidence.
