Bihar’s police lines are set for a comprehensive overhaul, with the state police headquarters initiating a detailed assessment of facilities ranging from armouries to gyms and canteens. Fourteen key standards have been fixed to evaluate all police lines, and action plans will be prepared to address any shortcomings identified.

Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has sought detailed reports from all regional IGs, DIGs and district Superintendents of Police. A letter has been issued to DIGs and SPs of all districts, directing them to submit reports by the end of the month. These reports, outlining specific deficiencies in each police line, will be submitted to ADG (Modernisation) Sudhanshu Kumar.

Once reports from all districts are received, a consolidated assessment will be prepared at the police headquarters. Based on this, a detailed action plan will be formulated and a state-wide drive launched to rectify deficiencies in a time-bound manner.

Currently, Bihar has 32 old police lines and 18 newly established ones. While the newer police lines largely meet the prescribed standards, several older police lines lack essential amenities. The focus of the exercise is to bridge this gap. In line with this initiative, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently inaugurated a centralised kitchen and dining hall at the Patna Police Line.

The 14 mandatory facilities include an armoury, mess and dining hall, dry canteen, creche, barracks, family quarters, government property store, recreation room, obstacle course, physical training area, drill square, synthetic running track, mini stadium and playground, and an open-air gym.
