Dr Dilip Jaiswal assumed charge as Minister of the Road Construction Department on Thursday, asserting that greenfield projects and expressways will play a key role in accelerating Bihar’s development.

Speaking after taking office, Dr Jaiswal said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the department has been consistently strengthening the state’s road infrastructure. He noted that Bihar has achieved the target of enabling travel to Patna from any part of the state within five hours.

Dr Jaiswal said the Road Construction Department currently oversees around 26,790 kilometres of roads, including national highways. Of these, nearly 200 kilometres are six-lane roads, while 1,600 kilometres are four-lane roads, with several other routes undergoing four-laning.

He added that multiple greenfield road projects are being implemented across the state. During the Chief Minister’s Pragati Yatra, the department approved 137 schemes, of which work orders have been issued for around 109 projects, and construction is underway. Efforts are being made to allocate the remaining projects soon and ensure all works are completed within the stipulated timelines.

Dr Jaiswal said the expansion of expressway networks and greenfield projects would further boost economic growth and development in Bihar.
