The Bihar government is set to conduct the fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) in the state shortly. This was announced by Education Minister Sunil Kumar during a press conference in Patna.
He said that details of vacancies for TRE-4 will be forwarded to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) between January 15 and January 20, 2026, and that the roster clearance process has already been completed. The recruitment notification will be issued thereafter, allowing candidates to apply.

Highlighting improvements in the education sector, the minister said Bihar’s education budget has risen from just over Rs 4,000 crore in 2005 to nearly Rs 70,000 crore at present. The number of teachers has also increased significantly from 1.5 lakh in 2005 to 2.27 lakh recruited through BPSC and 2.5 lakh through the Panchayati Raj Department.
Apart from TRE-4, the Education Department is preparing to fill about 5,500 posts on compassionate grounds. Recruitment for nearly 5,500 librarian posts will also begin soon. Candidates will be invited to apply once the official notifications are issued.
The minister acknowledged that many school buildings across the state are in poor condition and assured that they would be repaired within the current year. He also warned that strict action would be taken against any teacher found guilty of misconduct during duty hours.
He added that arrangements for mid-day meals have been made for 97 million students, and the honorarium for cooks had been doubled before the last election. In districts facing a shortage of school buildings, classes are being conducted at alternative locations, a situation that will be resolved within the next six months, he assured.
