The Bihar government’s crackdown on contract teachers (Niyojit Shikshak) appointed using fake academic certificates continues across the state. The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) has registered FIRs against six more teachers in October alone, taking the total to 106 this year.

The probe focuses on teachers appointed between 2006 and 2015. So far, vigilance officials have scrutinised over 6,45,000 certificates, leading to FIRs against 2,886 accused teachers employed in various districts of the state.

“This year, FIRs have been registered month-wise as follows: January 15, February 5, March 21, April 13, May 9, June 6, July 11, August 12, September 8, and October  6,” the bureau reported.

Following Patna High Court directives, the VIB is also registering FIRs against 21 teachers in Bihar found to have submitted fraudulent certificates. Vigilance officials say many certificates are still under verification, and additional actions are expected, creating widespread concern among teachers with dubious credentials.
