The process to develop a large industrial area in Paroo, Muzaffarpur, has formally begun, with plans to acquire around 700 acres of land across five villages. Approval for land acquisition has already been granted, and public hearings with landholders will start from January 21 to address concerns and gather feedback.

District Collector Subrat Kumar Sen has issued orders detailing the dates, venues, and timings of the hearings for each mauza. The hearings are being held as part of a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) being conducted for the project. A Patna-based institution has submitted a draft SIA report to the district administration, and the full assessment process is expected to take more than a month.

Before finalising the report, the institution will conduct door-to-door surveys and interact directly with affected landholders. The exercise will assess the likely displacement of families and help determine eligibility for rehabilitation and compensation under the rehabilitation scheme.

According to officials, the proposed industrial area will span five villages under the Paroo circle and is expected to boost economic activity and generate employment in the region. The project holds added significance as the site is located adjacent to the under-construction Patna–Bettiah four-lane highway, ensuring smooth connectivity and easy access to the state capital.

Land acquisition and public hearing schedule:

-Chandpur Chiutaha: 250 acres; hearing on January 21 at 10:30 am, Paroo Circle Office

-Chaturpatti: 150 acres; hearing on January 21 at 10:30 am, Paroo Circle Office

-Bhojpatti: 95 acres; hearing on January 22 at 10:30 am, Paroo Circle Office
