BSE Listed Companies Market Cap: The aggregate market capitalization of BSE-listed companies reached the $5 trillion milestone for the first time on Tuesday. After trading, the overall valuation of exchange-listed companies stood at an all-time high of Rs 4,14,62,306.56 crore (USD 4.97 trillion), according to BSE data. The 30-share Sensex finished at 73,953.31, down 52.63 points or 0.07 percent. However, during the day, it climbed to an all-time high of 74,189.19, up 183.25 points or 0.24 percent.
"The market capitalisation of companies listed on the BSE has crossed a record USD 5 trillion for the first time -- hitting a fresh high on May 21. India became the fifth largest market cap country after the US, China, Japan, and Hong Kong," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities.
On November 29 of last year, the overall market valuation of all BSE-listed companies reached $4 trillion for the first time. On May 24, 2021, the M-cap of all BSE-listed companies reached the $3 trillion mark. The total valuation of exchange-listed companies surpassed the $1 trillion threshold on May 28, 2007. In just seven years, on June 6, 2014, the journey from $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion was completed in 2,566 days.
The m-cap of listed companies reached $2 trillion on July 10, 2017, 1,130 days after hitting the $1.5 trillion level. It took ten years for the exchange to reach a market capitalization of $2 trillion from the $1 trillion mark. From there, it took 1,255 days to cross the $2.5 trillion mark on December 16, 2020. So far this year, the BSE benchmark has gained 1,713.05 points or 2.37 percent. On April 9 this year, it reached an all-time high of 75,124.28.
On Tuesday, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Consultancy Services, Larsen & Toubro, Nestle, Maruti, IndusInd Bank, Infosys, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank were the major laggards among Sensex constituents. Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, and State Bank of India were among the gainers.
The BSE midcap gauge rose 0.34 percent in the broader market, while the smallcap index fell 0.18 percent. The midcap index hit a lifetime high of 43,223.69 during the day, while the smallcap index hit a record high of 48,099.29. Among the indices, metals gained 4.08 percent, followed by utilities (1.99 percent), power (1.96 percent), commodities (1.79 percent), and energy (1.01 percent). Financial Services, IT, Telecom, Auto, Bankex, and Tech were the laggards. Last week, the BSE benchmark rose 1,341.47 points or 1.84 percent.
