5 Kg Cylinder Rules: In a move that could bring a significnat relief to the millions of migrant workers, working professional and students living away from their homes, the central government has announced the issuance of 5-kg "Free Trade LPG" cylinders without address proof. With the development, anyone can obtain a cooking gas connection simply by presenting a valid ID.

According to a report in jagran.com, Chandra Prakash, President of the All India LPG Distributors Federation, welcomed the move, calling it a "boon" for those previously unable to obtain a new domestic connection due to the lack of a permanent address. He highlighted that migrant domestic workers, daily wage labourers, students, and professionals can now have access to gas cylinders without extensive government paperwork.

How to get 5 kg cylinder without address proof 

Eligible individuals simply need to visit their nearest LPG distributor with a valid ID. The person has to submit a self-declaration form, declaring his or her residence and confirm that the cylinder will be used strictly for cooking. The new guidelines allow cylinders for domestic use only, and commercial use is strictly prohibited.

Government Has Eyes On Black Marketing

The government has been issuesing statement that there is no shortage of LPG and that petrol and diesel are available across the country. To prevent LPG black marketing, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has significantly increased the use of the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC), rising from 53 per cent in February to 90 per cent now. This reflects the high demand for these 5-kg cylinders.

With all the assurances, the government has appealed to the public to refrain from panic buying or making unnecessary bookings. One should reach out to authorised dealers instead of middle man. According to the government, the services related to home delivery are also not affected.
