EPFO: The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made a major change in the claim settlement rules. To provide relief, the organization has allowed withdrawal, in cases where the EPFO member has passed away and his Aadhaar is not linked with the PF account or any details are not matching. With the revision, nominees will be able to get the amount from their PF account even without Aadhaar details.

In a recent circular EPFO said that in the case of the death of EPF members, regional authorities were facing various difficulties in linking and verifying their Aadhaar details. In such a situation, payment was being delayed.

Regional officers will have a role

According to EPFO, As Aadhaar details cannot be corrected after the death of a person, fund claim verification can now be approved on a physical basis. But, the same can be done only with the permission of regional officers. To prevent fraud cases, the membership of the deceased and the claimants will be investigated.

Application of rules

These rules will apply to cases where the member's details are correct in the EPF UAN, but incorrect in the Aadhaar data. At the same time, if the details are correct in UID but incorrect in UAN, then the nominee will have to complete a separate process for this.

The nominee will be allowed to submit an Aadhaar If a member dies without entering the Aadhaar details, the Aadhaar details of the nominee will be saved in the system and he will be allowed to sign. Whereas, in scenarios where the deceased member has not added any nominee, family members or legal heirs will be allowed to submit their Aadhaar.

Here are the problems that existed earlier - Incorrect details in Aadhaar or technical problems in Aadhaar, deactivation of the Aadhaar number, and not matching with details entered in UAN.
