Budget 2026 Update: The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be presenting the Budget for the upcoming financial year (FY26-27) next month; however, the date and time are yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, according to a report by Moneycontrol, the government is likely to make its final decision on the timing of the presentation of the fiscal year 2027 budget during the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs meeting scheduled for January 7.
Govt Presents Budget On February 1, since 2017
Since 2017, the Union government has been presenting the budget on February 1, giving the Parliament ample time to pass it before the start of the following fiscal year.
According to the report, the government is leaning towards maintaining February 1 as the budget presentation date, which, if approved, would be the first time the fiscal year’s budget has been presented on a Sunday.
While the decision has not yet been officially adopted, media reports indicated that preparations were already underway, with February 1 remaining the tentative date.
Nirmala Sitharaman to Present Budget for Ninth Time
Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her ninth consecutive budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, as the country awaits one of the most important national financial announcements of the year.
Several media sources, citing officials, indicate that the 2026-2027 budget will be presented to Parliament on Sunday, February 1, 2026. However, the exact date has not yet been announced.

Budget On the Weekend
Presenting the general budget over the weekend is not new. Previously, in 2025, the budget was presented on a Saturday, and former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented budgets on weekends on several occasions, including February 28, 2015 (Saturday) and February 28, 2016 (Sunday).
