Steve Smith was once again at the centre of a tense moment with Bangladesh during the second Test in Mackay. The Australian batter appeared to encourage Bangladesh to take a DRS review against him after an LBW appeal was turned down. The exchange became heated enough for the umpires to step in and calm things down.
Smith gets involved in Bangladesh's review discussion
The incident happened during the ninth over of Australia's first innings. Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed struck Smith on the pads and immediately appealed for LBW.
However, umpire Nitin Menon was not convinced and rejected the appeal.
Taskin then spoke to Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto about taking the review. Smith decided to get involved in the conversation and appeared to suggest that the review would not work.
“I am halfway down the wicket to him; it’s going miles over. Go for it," Smith was heard saying as Shanto continued discussing the review with Taskin, as per Fox Cricket.
Television footage also appeared to show Smith gesturing towards the Bangladesh players and encouraging them to use their review.

Umpires warn Smith
The situation caught the attention of both umpires, who walked towards the crease and spoke to Smith.
Smith responded with a nod and appeared puzzled by the warning.
Former Australia cricketer Kerry O’Keeffe also reacted to the moment while on commentary.
“I know in the 70s if you had done that, it would be grievous bodily harm."
Smith has been involved in similar on-field exchanges before. He was also heard having a verbal exchange with Litton Das during the first Test of the series.
Smith continues the mind games
Smith was again involved in a similar moment later in the match.
As Australia tried to recover, Bangladesh thought Smith had edged a delivery from spinner Taijul Islam down the leg side. Smith responded by appearing to challenge Bangladesh to use their review.
“Use it. Go on. Do it. Go on, use it… Waste another one (review). Do what you want. Do your thing," Smith said.
The Australian batter's comments added another layer to an already tense contest between the two teams, with Smith once again using his experience and on-field chatter to put pressure on the opposition.
