The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Litton Das as the captain of the ODI team until the 2027 ODI World Cup. The experienced wicketkeeper-batter replaces Mehidy Hasan Miraz and will now lead Bangladesh in both ODI and T20I cricket. The move is aimed at bringing consistency to the team’s approach across the two white-ball formats.
Shanto remains Test captain
Towhid Hridoy will continue as the vice-captain in ODIs, while Nazmul Hossain Shanto remains the captain of the Test side. With this decision, the BCB has also moved away from its earlier system of having different captains for all three formats.

Although the change has surprised many, especially after Bangladesh’s recent ODI series wins against Pakistan and Australia at home, the board appears to be focusing on its long-term plans. By giving Litton the job until the 2027 World Cup, the selectors have shown confidence in his ability to build a stable team over the next year.
Litton Das' captaincy record
Litton has led Bangladesh in ODIs before, though only for a short period. He captained the side in seven matches and won three of them. While the numbers were not outstanding, his performances as T20I captain have impressed the board, which believes he can achieve similar success in the 50-over format.
His first experience as ODI captain came in 2022 when Tamim Iqbal was ruled out through injury. During that period, Bangladesh achieved a memorable 2-1 ODI series win over India at home. The team registered thrilling victories by one wicket and five runs in the series. As captain, Litton scored 149 runs in six innings at an average of 29.80, with a highest score of 53. He will now look to make a bigger impact both as a leader and as one of the team’s senior batters.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s captaincy records
The appointment also marks the end of Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s time as ODI captain. He took charge in 2025 after replacing Nazmul Hossain Shanto. From 2024 to July 2026, Miraz led Bangladesh in 24 ODIs, winning 10 matches, losing 13, while one game ended in a tie. His win percentage stood at 43.75.
Under Miraz, Bangladesh were difficult to beat at home and recorded ODI series victories over Pakistan and Australia. However, the team found it tough to produce similar results away from home, managing only two wins in 13 matches.
