BCB vs BCCI: The strained Cricketing ties between India and Bangladesh have raised a major issue for the ICC (International Cricket Council), with the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) asking for a venue shift from co-hosts to Sri Lanka for their T20 World Cup matches. As per a previous report, ICC has offered 'alternate venues' in India for the Bangladesh Cricket Team. Reacting to the report, BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) secretary Devajit Saikia has stated that the board has received no updates regarding the matter from the governing body.

Notably, India and Sri Lanka are co-hosting the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup, which begins February 7. However, BCB requested ICC to change their venues from India to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns for players. The BCB also stated that they had received a response from the ICC, with the governing council assuring them that they would look into the matter.

Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai 'Potential' Options

Reports were suggesting that Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram could be the potential options in place of Kolkata and Mumbai, where Bangladesh were set to play their matches originally.

No Information Received: BCCI Secretary

As per a report by IANS, Saikia stated that the Indian cricket board has not received any information about this.

“The BCCI has not received any communication regarding the matter of shifting Bangladesh matches to Chennai or anywhere else, and it is beyond our control. It is a matter of communication between the BCB and the ICC, as the ICC is the governing body. If the ICC conveys any decision to us regarding a change of venue, the BCCI, as the host, will take the necessary steps. At present, we are not privy to any such information,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told IANS.

According to the current schedule, Bangladesh are scheduled to play three games – against the West Indies (February 7), against Italy (February 9), and against England (February 14) in Kolkata – before moving to Mumbai to face Nepal on February 17.
