IND vs AUS Highlights, ODI World Cup Match 5: India Beat Australia By 6 Wickets

KL Rahul finishes the game in style as India clinch a six-wicket victory in their first match of the ODI World Cup 2023.

Wicket! So unfortunate for Virat to miss out on a century but he has played an innings to remember for a long long time. He tried to smash another for a boundary but found a fielder inside the circle. Finally partnership broken for the Aussies as India lose the fourth wicket.

Virat becomes crucial for India in this situation. He has done it many times in the past and will be looking to emulate the same. Somebody has to step up tp play a supporting role. Maybe Rahul can do that.

AUS: 199/10

IND: 21-3 (8)

Big moment in the match as Mitchell Marsh drops an easy catch of Virat Kohli. A slight miscommunication between Marsh and Alex Carey lead to the drop catch. This can cost Australia big time!

AUS: 199/10

IND: 12-3 (5)

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stride to the crease, tasked with the challenge of getting India's innings on track after losing early wickets.

The Australian bowlers are pitching up their deliveries, attempting to exploit any assistance the pitch may offer.

AUS: 199/10

IND: 2/3 (1.5 Overs)

Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer depart, Australia on top. Josh Hazlewood takes 2 in an over.

Can you imagine this. Iyer plays a rash shot to throw his wicket away. India in trouble!

ALL OUT!! Australia have been bowled out for 199. Mitchell Starc is the last player to depart. India need 200 runs to start their WC campaign on a winning note.

Australian pair of Adam Zampa and Mitchell Starc eye the optimal figure of 200 on this pitch. With just 14 deliveries left, can they achieve it?

Australian captain Pat Cummins' short stay at the crease has come to an end. He departs for 15(24). Bumrah picks up his 2nd wicket. Australia 165/8 (42.2)

With 11 overs left, Australia's lower order has been left with very little options. SIX!! Pat Cummins rocked back and deposited the ball into stands.

Kuldeep Yadav gets another wicket of Glenn Maxwell. This is getting from bad to worse for Australia. Pat Cummins is the new batter in. OUT!!! OH DEAR! Cameron Green back in the hut as well. AUS 140/7 (36.2)

Wicket! Two in the over for Jadeja as he has ripped the batting lineup apart. He takes his third as he removes Carey for a duck. Australia go five down.

Wicket! Jadeja is showing his experience here as he gets another big wicket. Good catch by KL Rahul behind the stumps. Australia lose their fourth wicket.

Wicket! Jadeja gets the big fish here. Smith was well set for a big one but will head back to the pavilion. Smith can only acknowledge the greatness of that delivery with Australia losing the third wicket.

Hundred up for Australia. Smith is keeping things calm at the one end and he will be needing the same from Marnus.

Wicket! Kuldeep Yadav breaks the partnership. This wicket was much needed for India at this point in time. Warner hits that straight back at the bowler who didn't make a mistake in holding into that. Warner departs for 41.

This has been a remarkable recovery from these two after the early wicket. 50 partnership is up between Warner and Smith and they are playing free-flow cricket here. India need to remove one of those before they went on to make big.

These two batters are finding the rhythm after the early loss. Expensive over this from Pandya as 13 runs came off it. Smith is looking brilliant here.

Brilliant five balls to finish off the over by Bumrah after conceding boundary in the first ball.

What a catch from Virat Kohli! What a delivery from Bumrah! What a start for India! Mitchell Marsh departs early. AUS 5/1 (2.2)

Mohammed Siraj has been greeted with a boundary on the first ball of his over. Just four runs off the over. AUS 5/0 (2)

National anthems for both the teams have concluded. Both Australian openers and Indian cricket team playing XI is out in the middle.

Australia (Playing XI): David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Alex Carey(w), Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins(c), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first.

Shubman Gill did not accompany the team to the ground. Safe to say, he has been ruled out of today's encounter.

It's worth noting that these two teams faced off at this venue six months ago, where Australia's total of 269 proved to be a winning score. India lost that match by 21 runns with Adam Zampa taking a four wicket haul.

Captain Rohit Sharma, at 36, knows that his legacy will be defined by whether he lifts the coveted Cup on November 19th. Similarly, Virat Kohli, arguably the best all-format batter of his generation, aims to secure his place among legends like Sachin Tendulkar.

Chennai weather is slightly difficult to predict. However, it is completely sunny at the moment with some clouds hovering around the ground.

India will miss their opening batter Shubman Gill, who has reportedly, been under the weather since last few days.

The match against Australia promises to be fascinating, with Rohit being tested tactically against a side with a deep batting lineup. The performance of Indian spinners on the Chepauk surface, known for turn and grip, will be crucial.

Rohit, known for his leadership and tactical acumen, faces several challenges: as a batter, he must take the aggressive route during Powerplays, as a tactician, he needs to decide when to bring in specialist spinner Ashwin, and as a leader, he must motivate and guide his team to success.

Australia, led by Pat Cummins, presents a tough challenge for India. While India boasts a world-class batting lineup, Australia has a top-notch pace attack. However, the sweltering Chennai heat poses a question mark over Australia's ability to withstand the conditions.

The anticipation is building as Rohit Sharma, one of the most revered cricketers of his generation, prepares to lead the Indian team in their high-stakes World Cup campaign opener against Australia.
