India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to begin a new chapter in his Test career after losing the vice-captaincy role. The BCCI recently named the squad for the one-off Test against Afghanistan, and Pant, who was Shubman Gill’s deputy during India’s last Test series against South Africa, will now be part of the team purely as a player.
Ahead of the match, India head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke about Pant’s approach and made it clear that the team management has no plans to change the wicketkeeper-batter’s natural style of play. However, Gambhir stressed that international cricket is all about understanding and adapting to different match situations.

Pant’s aggressive batting has often made him one of India’s biggest match-winners, but it has also attracted criticism at times.
