RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Qualifier 1: Gujarat Titans' batter Glenn Phillips stepped up at the post-match press conference after they suffered a defeat in Qualifier 1 of the ongoing season to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Even though he wasn't included in the playing XI, his presence at the press conference startled a few reporters. As the press conference began, Phillips faced challenging questions. He was pressed about whether the team, after witnessing the Bengaluru-based franchise pile up a mammoth target of 254 runs, had resigned themselves to defeat. Phillips recoiled at this question. He condemned it as 'silly' and 'terrible,' and retorted sharply, stressing that professional cricketers push their bodies to the limit on the field and never surrender without a fight.
"That's a silly question. That is a really silly question. No one goes in there waiting to go, 'Oh, you know what? We're just going to give up on this one.' Why would we do that as professional cricketers? That's a terrible question. We went out there, and we gave it everything. Unfortunately, when you're trying to chase 250, everything has to go right. And we went out there to try and make everything go right, and obviously it didn't", Glenn Phillips told reporters during the post-match press conference.
The Shubman Gill-led side collapsed for just 162 runs and slumped to defeat by 92 runs. After the top order of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler fell cheaply, Phillips explained that the burden of such a huge target crushed their batting lineup.
"There's a huge amount of scoreboard pressure when you're chasing 250. Very few teams have conquered it. The Punjab Kings have pulled it off a couple of times, which is phenomenal. They might make it look easier than it is. I've yet to join a team that's surged anywhere near 250, so sometimes you have to accept it," he added.
He was also asked if it felt unsettling or isolating to sit before the media right after such a difficult loss, particularly as someone who hadn't played in the match.

And to this he answered, "No, that's fine, that's fine. It's all good. We're all embedded in the team together, and we all assume equal media responsibilities. Sometimes, an outside perspective from someone who isn't playing on the day, especially for the guys bracing for the Eliminator, helps. They must hunker down and sharpen their minds. We've played excellent cricket so far, so those out there need to focus and ensure they're ready for the next challenge. As Ash [Ashish Nehra] says, 'chill pill,' stay calm and be prepared for the next one."
