The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken disciplinary action against Pakistan women's cricket team captain Fatima Sana following her controversial on-field reaction during the Women's Asia Cup 2026 clash against India in Dubai.
Fatima has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Group A encounter on Saturday. She was also handed one demerit point for the offence.
The occurrence happened in the second over of India's innings when Fatima dismissed the opening batter, Shafali Verma. After taking the catch, the captain of Pakistan made a sign towards the pavilion, and it was ruled to have violated Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Fatima Sana Admits Offence
Fatima confessed to committing the offense and accepted the punishment recommended by Supriya Rani Das from the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Due to this, there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charge was brought by umpire Nimali Perera and Shathira Jakir Jesy along with the third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.
The most recent demerit point is a notable one since it makes Fatima’s overall total two in the last twenty-four months. Fatima has had a demerit point previously in the T20I series that Pakistan played against Ireland.
According to the ICC, Level 1 offenses can carry a punishment of a warning, a fine of no more than fifty percent of the match fees, and a demerit point or two.
Players who receive four or more demerit points within a span of twenty-four months automatically have those demerit points converted into suspension points.

India Beat Pakistan By Seven Wickets
The disciplinary action was taken against Fatima after India took down Pakistan in a one-sided match in Dubai. Pakistan was all out for only 55, which marks the lowest total by them ever in women’s T20I cricket.
Fatima was one of the few bowlers for Pakistan who got three wickets for 17 runs. India chased down the target with eight wickets in hand within just 8.4 overs. Shafali got bowled by Fatima before reaching the 3000-run milestone in women’s T20I cricket.
Fatima will now be under greater scrutiny because she already has two demerit points in her disciplinary history for 24 months.
