Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chairman of Men's Senior Selection Committee Ajit Agarkar announced two different squads for the series. First squad (15 members) will feature in first two ODIs and the second squad (17 members) will feature in 3rd ODI.
Notably, KL Rahul has been appointed captain for the first two ODIs and Ravindra Jadeja has been named his deputy.
It is also interesting to note that Ravichandran Ashwin has been named in both the sides as a surprise inclusion.
Ashwin, who hasn't played an ODI since January 2022, could potentially make a return to the Indian team for the World Cup if Axar Patel isn't fit before the September 28 deadline set by the ICC. Axar sustained a quadriceps tear during the recent Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Washington Sundar, an off-spinner, has also been included in the squad for all three upcoming ODIs and provides another backup option for the World Cup.
The upcoming ODIs are scheduled as follows: the first in Mohali on September 22, the second in Indore on September 24, and the third in Rajkot on September 27.
