Ind vs WI 1st ODI Highlights: India Defeat West Indies By 5 Wickets To Take 1-0 Lead In Series

The pair of Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja completes the chase as India beat West Indies by 5 wickets with 27.1 overs to spare. India also take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.

Back to back wickets for Windies. Shardul Thakur departs cheaply right after the wicket of Ishan Kishan. Rohit Sharma walks in at number 7.

Unlucky Hardik Pandya but Windies won't mind it one bit. Ishan Kishan striked it hard but it ricochet off Cariah hand's and hit the stumps, where Hardik was found short off his crease.

You live by the sword, you die by it! Suryakumar Yadav, in an effort to sweep the spinner, gives away his wicket. Gudakesh Motie gets his first wicket. IND 54/2 (11)

Do Windies have their first wicket? Shubman Gill has edged one but the question remains that has the catch been taken cleanly? Umpires says it's OUT! India lose their first wicket.

Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill do not look in a hurry as they are taking time initially concentrating more on singles and doubles. To be honest, this will prove to be a cakewalk.

A surprise as Rohit Sharma has not come up to open the batting and has sent Ishan Kishan instead to bat with Shubman Gill. FOUR!! First sign of intent against Dominic Drakes

Windies are bowled out in just 23 overs. Kuldeep Yadav takes his fourth wicket. WI 114/10 after 23 overs as India need 115 to win.

Shai Hope has been adjudged LBW. He has taken a review but it looks out. UltraEdge confirms that there is no bat and it is umpires call on the wicket. Kuldeep gets his 3rd wicket. WI 114/9 (22.3)

Outrageous and a below-par performance by Windies batters. Every delivery is a potential wicket-taking one. Kuldeep Yadav takes his second wicket.

Windies batters are going down like nine-pins at the moment. Horrible scenes for a Windies supporter. Yannic Cairah is the new batter in. WI 105/7 (19.2)

What is happening with Windies here! Romario Shephard departs for a duck. Ample turn for the spinners. Windies lose their sixth wicket. Shai Hope is running out of partners from one end.

Rovman Powell - the usual suspect against spin bowling gives away his wicket to Ravindra Jadeja. West Indies are losing the plot in Barbados. Jadeja picks up his second wicket. WI 96/5 (17.2)

Ravindra Jadeja strikes for the first time in the match as Windies lose their 4th wicket. Shimron Hetmyer is the latest to depart. Windies are in a disarray.

Some respite for West Indies as captain Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer have steadied the ship somewhat. Umran Malik brought back into the attack after the attack.

Another one bites the dust as Shardul Thakur bowls a beauty to get rid of opener Brandon King. A partnership is required here. WI lose their third wicket. Shimron Hetmyer is the new batter in. WI 45/3 (8.4)

Ravindra Jadeja takes a brilliant catch to dismiss Athanaze for 22. The West Indian was looking brilliant in the innings but now has to go back. WI 45/2 (7.5)

West Indies are up for the challenge. Shardul Thakur has been attacked by Athanaze and King fo his bouncer ploy. Mukesh Kumar to continue.

Alick Athanaze has announced his arrival with a brilliant six and a four against Hardik Pandya. Some improvement in the run-rate which is close to four runs.

What was Kyle Mayers trying to do here? A rash shot with no timing whatsoever. Hardik Pandya picks up his first wicket. Mayers departs for a 2(9). WI 7/1 (2.4)

First over for Mukesh Kumar in his ODI debut is a maiden. He kept bowling at the same line and length giving Kyle Mayers nothing.

Hardik Pandya was very much on the spot with his line and length. There is some swing and Hardik exploited it brilliantly. Mukesh Kumar to bowl the second over.

Kyle Mayers and Brandon King to open the batting for West Indies in the middle. We are in a surprise as Hardik Pandya will open the bowling for India.

"The square boundaries are around 65 metres and the straight boundaries are around 70 metres. The average score on this ground is 236. This is a generally a dry surface. This pitch might have a bit of spongy bounce." - As per the official broadcaster.

Every series means a lot. We've got to play each game and each series to win. Now is a good opportunity to do so against a top team. We have got some quality spinners as well. We will try to put up a good score on the surface. There will be a bit moisture and we need to be bat carefully in the beginning.

We are gonna field first, no particular reason. We are gonna try a few different things. We want to head into the World Cup with a clear mindset. For us, the results are also important. At times, we are going to try out different players but the results are important for us. All cricketers around the world who are playing all formats need to adapt well. Hopefully, we can get what we want here. We have got four seamers and two spinners.

India won the toss and elected to bowl first.

In the absence of Jason Holder, Keemo Paul and Nicholas Pooran, expect the likes of Gudakesh Motie, Yannic Cariah, Alick Athanaze and Jayden Seales to be tried out as West Indies eye rebuild in ODIs, with India busy around preparation for the World Cup.

Shai Hope and Brandon King will be the leaders with the bat, with the return of Shimron Hetmyer being a huge boost. Hetmyer hasn't played in ODIs for West Indies since July 2021 but averages 45.45 against India.

West Indies, on the other hand, will be considering this series as a new beginning to get back to being the force to reckon with in the format after missing the bus for this year's ODI World Cup via the defeats in the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

India also have to see if Malik, who has fared better in ODIs than T20Is, can be the x-factor pace-bowling option alongside Mohammed Siraj, with either Jaydev Unadkat or Mukesh Kumar to be the third pacer.

With Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja expected to start, India have to make a toss-up between the wrist-spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for the second spinner duties.

Samson, on the other hand, has put up good performances in the sporadic chances he got in ODIs and has an opportunity in the form of three consecutive matches in the Caribbean to put up consistent performances.

Kishan, the left-handed batter, hasn't been able to set the ODI stage on fire after his sensational double-hundred against Bangladesh at Chattogram last year.

With Shreyas Iyer out, Suryakumar Yadav is likely to be given a chance for batting at number four despite recording a hat-trick of ducks in the ODIs against Australia in March. In the absence of KL Rahul, who's on the road to recovery from a right thigh injury, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will be competing for the wicketkeeper's spot in the playing eleven.

With many regulars of the Indian team still on the road to recovery from injuries of various kind, the series against the West Indies presents a chance for the likes of Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Umran Malik to strengthen their case for playing a home ODI World Cup.

Hello and welcome to the live cricket coverage of match no. 1 of the three-match ODI series between India and West Indies here at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
