Smriti Mandhana added another major milestone to her illustrious career during India's second semi-final against Bangladesh Women at the Asian Games 2026.

The India vice-captain became the highest run-scorer in women's T20I cricket, moving past New Zealand legend Suzie Bates to claim the top spot on the all-time list.

Mandhana entered the contest with 4,758 T20I runs, just seven behind Bates' tally of 4,765. Her appearance against Bangladesh gave her the opportunity to create history, and she needed only eight runs to move past the former New Zealand captain.

With her latest runs for India, Mandhana took her T20I tally beyond Bates and became the first batter to reach the summit of the women's format.

Before the semi-final, Bates held the record with 4,765 runs in women's T20Is, while Mandhana was on 4,758. The Indian opener therefore required just eight runs to take sole possession of the record.
