IND vs ENG 2nd ODI: India skipper Rohit Sharma has finally opened up after bouncing back to form in the second ODI against England in Cuttack. He played a match-winning knock of 119 runs off 90 balls, in which he had hit 12 fours and seven sixes.

This was his first half-century after 12 innings as he was going through a lean patch during India's Test season. He had scored just 164 runs after playing in eight matches at an average of 10.93.

But he proved his naysayers wrong as he was at his absolute best and helped the team win the match by four wickets. After his brilliant century, Rohit opened up as to what he was thinking batting during the middle overs and how he broke down the innings into different parts and decided to bat as deep as he could.

“It was good, really enjoyed being out there, scoring some runs for the team. Important game, and series on the line. I broke it into pieces about how I wanted to bat. It's a format that is longer than T20 cricket and much shorter than Tests. Still, you need to break it down, assess, and bat according to the situation. I wanted to stay focused and bat as deep as possible,” Rohit told broadcasters during the post-match presentation.

He also talked about how the English bowlers attacked his body and he was looking for gaps.

“Looking at the pitch when you play on black soil, the pitch tends to skid on a bit so you must show the full face of the bat. Then they were trying to bowl into the body and not give room so I prepared my plan as well. I accessed the gaps and obviously, I got good support from Gill and then Shreyas,” he concluded.

Rohit stitched a match-winning partnership of 136 runs with Shubman Gill for the first wicket. He then built a partnership of 70 runs for the third wicket with Shreyas Iyer. With these significant contributions, the Rohit Sharma-led side chased down the target of 305 runs and is leading the series by 2-0. Both teams will play the third and last ODI in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
