IND vs NZ T20 World Cup 2026 Final: Gautam Gambhir addressed MS Dhoni's viral comment praising his rare smile after India's 2026 T20 World Cup win. Gambhir explained why he tends to appear serious in the dugout during matches. Moments after the team's victory, Dhoni commended their performance and Gambhir's demeanor on social media.

He also wrote a special message for Gambhir, saying he looked good while smiling and that it was a powerful combination with his intensity. Speaking to ANI, Gambhir thanked Dhoni for his remarks but explained that it's hard to smile in high-pressure international matches.

He explained that the weight of expectations in the country leaves little room for anything but a serious demeanor.

"As a coach, it's tough when people comment without having been in that situation themselves. When you’re in the dugout, there is so much at stake," Gambhir told ANI.

"Expectations from the Indian team are always massive. Even if you want to smile, it’s often not possible during a World Cup. In India, losing isn’t considered an option, but the reality is, it can still happen," he added.

'NO GUARANTEE OF RETURNS'

He further stated that in sports, effort doesn’t guarantee success, so he remains serious.

He stated: In sports, you can dedicate years of effort without assurance of victory. Unlike investments, there are no predictable returns, which intensifies the pressure to succeed.

Gambhir concluded that if India had lost the World Cup, all the effort would have felt wasted, which distinguishes sports from other careers.

Despite the pressure, Gambhir said he will be smiling for the next few months following India's T20 World Cup title victory.
