IND vs NZ: India captain Shubman Gill looked in good touch during the first ODI match against New Zealand on Sunday at the BCA stadium in Vadodara. Gill displayed shades of brilliance after a rough patch in international Cricket, scoring 56 off 71 balls while sharing important stands with senior pros like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, his knock came to a halt after New Zealand's gun-fielder Glenn Phillips took a safe catch inside the 30-yard circle.
Phillips, who is often dubbed as one of the finest fielders of this generation, had the opportunity to dismiss Gill inside the powerplay as well. During the eighth over of the match, Gill slashed the ball hard towards the backward point area where Phillips was stationed. Needless to say, the 'Kiwi' flew to his left as he almost completed a phenomenal catch.
The attempt was 'incredible' to say the least as it invoked a wry smile from openers Rohit Sharma and Gill, who received the lifeline. Check out the video here:
India Need 301 To Win
Indian bowlers Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj put out impressive performances, but Blackcaps' Daryl Mitchell struck a fine counter-attacking half-century to guide New Zealand to 300 for 8.
Harshit (2/65) got rid of openers Devon Conway (56 of 67 balls) and Henry Nicholls (62 off 69 balls) in quick succession to break a 117-run partnership at the top, which had started looking threatening.
