India vs Oman, Asia Cup 2025: Oman captain Jatinder Singh emphasises the significance of adhering to basics against "powerhouse" India in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 match, expressing confidence, despite acknowledging the Men in Blue's strength, in his team's ability to contest and potentially pull off an upset.

Having already been knocked out of the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four race, Jatinder-led Oman will prefer to bat first against India and end their campaign on a winning note in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Oman's match against India marks a landmark occasion – their first-ever meeting in any format of cricket. The game will be a historic experience for Oman as they will be taking on the powerhouse in front of a likely packed Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. With Jatinder's team already suffering two heavy drubbings in the tournament, getting a victory against India is a tall order.

However, with smaller stakes for Oman, the side might tackle the match with a bit more leeway, allowing an opportunity for Oman to push the limits against India's might.

In an exclusive conversation with The Daily Jagran, Jatinder Singh highlighted that his bowlers need to stifle scoring with courage and play with aggression against India's top-notch lineup.

"We know India is a powerhouse, and their lineup is world-class. For us, it’s about sticking to our basics—bowlers keeping things tight, hitting the right areas, and batters showing courage and intent. We can’t control the reputation of the opposition, but we can control our effort, discipline, and mindset. Upsets happen in cricket when a team believes in itself, and I can say this group has that belief. We respect India, but we’ll walk in with the confidence that on our day, we can compete with anyone," Jatinder told The Daily Jagran.

Jatinder also voiced keen anticipation about getting insights from India's stellar players, India skipper Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captain Shubman Gill, underscoring the volume of gleaning wisdom from world-class cricketers.

"Absolutely, I’m really looking forward to meeting players like Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill. For me and the team, it’s a great opportunity to learn from their experience—how they handle pressure, their preparation, and the little things that make them world-class. Interacting with them can give our players insights into mindset, professionalism, and the approach needed at the highest level. It’s not just about cricketing skills, but also learning how to carry yourself on and off the field," Jatinder said.

Jatinder recounts his experience playing for Oman with a deep sense of gratitude while acknowledging the pivotal role played by his player management agency, Sportcell.

"When I first came to Oman with my family in 2003, cricket wasn’t about big dreams or plans—it was simply about playing because I loved the game. I began with my school house team, then moved on to the school U-15s, U-19s, Oman U-19, and local clubs. Step by step, I got chances in domestic tournaments, and each stage felt like a milestone on the way. In 2011, when I finally received my Oman cap, it was an emotional moment—I never imagined life would take me this way," the Oman captain said.

"The journey has been full of challenges and sacrifices, but also so much joy. Oman cricket has given me not just a career, but an extended family and a purpose, and for that I’ll always be grateful. Also, Sportcell, my player Management agency also help me navigate the opportunity and build a sustainable career," the 36-year-old added.
