The Indian men's cricket team will play a four-day warm-up match in Colombo from August 7 to 10 before taking on Sri Lanka in a two-Test series later this month.

When will the warm-up clash take place?

Led by Shubman Gill, the Indian squad is expected to arrive in Colombo on August 4. The team will spend a few days training before playing the practice game at the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC).

After the warm-up fixture, India will travel to Galle for the opening Test, which will be played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19.

The second and final Test will be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from August 23 to 27. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 10:00 am local time.

Why India vs Sri Lanka Test series important?

The series is important for both teams as they look to improve their position in the World Test Championship standings. India are currently fifth with a points percentage of 48.15 from nine matches, while Sri Lanka sit sixth with a points percentage of 44.44. A series win would give either team a valuable boost in the race to finish in the top two and qualify for the WTC final.

This will also be India's first Test tour of Sri Lanka since 2017. On that tour, Virat Kohli led the visitors to a dominant 3-0 series victory.

India head into the series after an innings win over Afghanistan in their most recent Test, while Sri Lanka will be looking to bounce back after a 2-0 series defeat against the West Indies.
