India vs West Indies T20 World Cup 2026: India's captain Suryakumar Yadav praised his team and Sanju Samson's unwavering character and composure following their exhilarating victory over the West Indies, securing a semifinal spot in Mumbai.

The victory, marked by Sanju Samson's unbeaten 97, displayed India's soundness and capacity to perform under pressure, setting the stage for a semifinal clash against England.

The skipper lauded the team for embracing the moment and delivering collectively when it mattered most in the high-pressure nature of the contest.

"Obviously, it's a great feeling, and the way we played, I think, as everyone said, it was a do-or-die, like a quarter-final game, and the way the boys showed character, I think it was a great feeling,"? Suryakumar said in the post-match presentation.

India's chase of 196 was shaky at the start, with early departures from Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, followed by promising-but-failing starts from Suryakumar, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya. Amidst the tension, Samson anchored the innings, blending composure and calculated aggression in a masterful 50-ball knock, decorated with 12 fours and four sixes.

Suryakumar showered praise on Samson for keeping calm in the high-pressure game with his resilience and perseverance, underlining the importance of patience and preparation behind the scenes.

"I always say, good things happen to good people who wait, who have a lot of patience. I said it just now as well when I met him. But then it's all his hard work, what he's been doing behind the doors when he was not playing, and he's got the fruit of it at the perfect stage. And the way he batted, took the side completely to the victory," he said.

Suryakumar said the team would shift its concentration gradually while savouring the qualification.

"Very happy to be there at that spot. The way we played, I think from the first game, I think we deserved that spot going to the semi-final. That too in Mumbai, but we won't think about that right now. Rest back, relax, take a flight tomorrow. When we reach Mumbai, we'll start thinking about it,"? he mentioned.
