Rain has continued to play spoilsport in the men’s cricket competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, with three consecutive quarter-finals being washed out.
Nepal’s quarter-final against Sri Lanka was also abandoned without a result. Despite Nepal’s win over Afghanistan, the team will now bow out of the tournament as Sri Lanka, being the higher-ranked side, will advance to the semi-finals.
Sri Lanka will take on defending Asian Games champions India in the first semi-final on October 1.
Who will Pakistan face in the semi-final?
Pakistan have already secured their place in the semi-finals after their quarter-final against Hong Kong, China was washed out.
Sahibzada Farhan’s side will now have to wait for the result of the final quarter-final between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
If that match is also washed out, Bangladesh will move into the semi-finals because they are the higher-ranked team. Malaysia will then be eliminated.
Pakistan will subsequently face Bangladesh in the semi-final on October 1.
What happens if the semi-finals are washed out?
The semi-finals are scheduled to take place on October 1, but rain could once again affect the schedule.
If either semi-final is washed out and no result is possible, the higher-ranked team will advance to the final.
Under that scenario, India and Pakistan would progress to the gold-medal match, while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh would meet for the bronze medal.
What happens if the final is washed out?
The final is scheduled for October 3.
There was a similar situation at the Hangzhou Asian Games, where the men’s final between India and Afghanistan was abandoned due to rain. India were declared champions because they were the higher-ranked team.
However, the rules have changed since the previous edition.
If the 2026 Asian Games final is washed out and no result is possible, both teams will share the gold medal.
