LSG vs MI, IPL 2025: Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, scripted history with the ball during their IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday, April 4.
Hardik picked an incredible five-wicket haul, the first of his IPL career, but LSG did well in the end to post a challenging total of 203/8 in their 20 overs. Hardik Pandya finished with five wickets to his name, 36 runs in his four overs. Notably, this was Hardik's first-ever five-for in overall T20 cricket as he became the first-ever captain in IPL history to reach the milestone.
He took wickets of Markram (53 off 38 balls), Nicholas Pooran (12), Rishabh Pant (2), David Miller (27) and Akash Deep (0). Mitchell Marsh was the top run-getter for the hosts as he played a fiery knock of 60 runs in just 31 balls on the back of nine fours and two sixes.
Most IPL wickets as a captain
57 - Shane Warne
30 - Hardik Pandya*
30 - Anil Kumble
25 - Ravichandran Ashwin
21 - Pat Cummins
5/35 is Hardik Pandya’s best figures in T20 cricket, bettering his 4/16 against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in 2023.
Marsh and Markram provided a marvellous start to LSG as they stitched a 76-run opening stand. After Marsh's dismissal in the 7th over, LSG lost a couple of wickets more in quick succession but Markram stood at the other end. He added crucial runs with Ayush Badoni (30) and Davi Miller (27) before reaching his half-century.
His 53-run knock came to an end in the 18th over off Hardik, with Raj Bawa taking a commendable catch. Apart from Hardik, Trent Boult, Ashwani Kumar and Vignesh Puthur took a wicket each as well for the visitors.
MI stalwart and India captain Rohit Sharma, who had struggled in the three matches he had played so far, missed out on the match as he was hit on the knees at the nets.
