Delhi captain Ayush Badoni continued his impressive run in the Ranji Trophy on Tuesday, scoring another double century against Jharkhand. With this knock, the young batter joined Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir in an elite list of Indian cricketers.

Badoni had already scored 217 against Gujarat earlier this month. He followed it up with an unbeaten 210 off 228 balls against Jharkhand, becoming one of the few Indian batters to score double centuries in two consecutive first-class innings.

His knock also put Delhi in a strong position in the match as the team declared its first innings at 515.

Ayush Badoni Joins Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir In Elite List

Badoni’s latest achievement puts him alongside some of India’s biggest cricketing names. Kohli and Gambhir are among the Indian batters who have scored double hundreds in consecutive first-class innings.

The Delhi captain has become the 21st Indian batter to achieve this rare feat, underlining his growing reputation in domestic cricket.

Badoni has been in excellent form in the Ranji Trophy and has maintained a first-class batting average of more than 60.

Ayush Badoni, Sumit Mathur Put Delhi In Command

Delhi did not have the best start to their innings, finding themselves at 181/5. However, Badoni and Sumit Mathur turned the game around with a massive partnership.

The pair added an unbeaten 334 runs for the sixth wicket, taking Delhi from a difficult position to a commanding total.

Badoni remained unbeaten on 210 off 228 balls, while Mathur scored 150 not out off 253 deliveries. Their partnership helped Delhi declare at 515, putting considerable pressure on the Jharkhand batting line-up.

In reply, Jharkhand reached 131/4 at stumps on Day 2, with Utkarsh Singh unbeaten on 53.

Priyank Panchal Praises Ayush Badoni

Badoni’s performance also earned praise from former cricketer Priyank Panchal, who was impressed by the quality of middle-order batters emerging from domestic cricket.

“Ayush Badoni with a 210 against Jharkhand. I’m glad that quality middle-order batters, who tackle spin and pace equally well, are emerging from the ranks in Ranji cricket lately,” Panchal wrote on X on Tuesday evening.

Snehal Kauthankar Was The Last Indian To Achieve The Feat

Before Badoni, Goa batter Snehal Kauthankar had achieved the milestone during the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season.

Kauthankar made history by becoming the first batter from Goa to score double centuries in consecutive first-class innings. He later went on to score a triple century, further adding to his memorable domestic season.

Badoni’s back-to-back double hundreds now place him among a select group of Indian batters to have produced such remarkable consistency in first-class cricket.
