The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced its ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia, which begins on November 13. With the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, England have named a near full-strength squad for the ODI series against the reigning world champions.
Jacob Bethell has returned after recovering from a right knee injury, while Jofra Archer has been included in the ODI squad after being rested for the ODI tri-series in Pakistan.

England will be without wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler and fast bowler Saqib Mahmood for the Australia tour because of injuries.

Buttler underwent successful hamstring surgery on October 12 and is not expected to return to action anytime soon. In his absence, Jordan Cox is likely to take over wicketkeeping duties while batting in the middle order. Bethell’s return could also mean that Tom Banton has to sit out.
Mahmood has been ruled out of the tour because of a knee injury. His last ODI appearance for England came against India in July 2026.

James Coles Dropped From ODI Squad
Young all-rounder James Coles has been left out of the squad for the Australia tour after being part of the team selected for the ODI tri-series in Pakistan. Leg-spinner Mason Crane is the other notable omission. Crane had returned to the England setup after eight years. England have opted for a pace-heavy attack for the Australian conditions.
Major Changes In England’s T20I Squad
England have made several changes to their T20I squad, with Jacob Bethell and Phil Salt returning after recovering from their respective injuries.
Salt missed the home T20I series against Sri Lanka last month because of a quadriceps injury. Despite his return, Aneurin Donald has retained his place in the squad after scoring 46 runs in three T20Is against Sri Lanka.
However, England will be without four of their fast bowlers — Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker and Josh Tonguefor the T20I series. The quartet will be rested as England manage their workload ahead of the three-Test tour of South Africa.
Thomas Rew, Eddie Jack Receive Maiden England Call-Ups
Young wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew and fast bowler Eddie Jack have earned their maiden England call-ups. Both players previously toured Australia with the England Lions.
Rew, 18, captained England to the final of the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2026, where they lost to India, a side featuring Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
The youngster made his T20 Blast and The Hundred debuts this year. He has scored 314 runs in 17 innings at a strike rate of 153.17, including one half-century.
Jack, 21, has played just seven T20 matches so far and taken eight wickets. Earlier this year, he was selected by MI London as a wildcard pick but did not feature in a match.
Left-arm pacer Luke Wood has also returned to the T20I squad. His inclusion comes a day after he was dropped from England’s list of centrally contracted players on October 12.
Wood last played a T20I against India in July 2026, conceding 35 runs without taking a wicket in three overs. He has represented England in 17 T20Is, taking 19 wickets at an average of 24.31.

England’s ODI Record In Australia
England’s last ODI tour of Australia came in 2022, when they suffered a 3-0 series whitewash. Australia won all three matches, including a heavy 221-run victory.
England’s previous ODI series win against Australia came in 2018, when they registered a dominant 4-1 result.
Overall, England have played 74 ODIs against Australia on Australian soil, winning 25 and losing 48. One match ended without a result.
England’s T20I Record In Australia
England had a better result during their last T20I tour of Australia in 2022, winning the three-match series 2-0.
The two teams have played four T20I series in Australia. Two were won by Australia, while one ended in a draw.
In individual matches, England have played 11 T20Is against Australia in Australia, winning three and losing seven, with one match ending without a result.
Despite their mixed record, England have positive memories of playing T20 cricket in Australia. They won their second T20 World Cup title in 2022, when the tournament was hosted by Australia. The hosts, who entered the competition as defending champions, failed to reach the semi-finals.
Will Australia Field A Second-String Side?
Australia could also manage the workload of their fast bowlers during the series. Following their tour of South Africa, they are expected to name a near full-strength squad, although some players could be rested for parts of the T20I series.
Test-bound players are likely to miss a few T20I matches as Australia prepare for their four-Test home series against New Zealand, which begins on December 9 at Perth Stadium.
The T20I series against England concludes on December 2 at Manuka Oval in Canberra, leaving Australia with a short turnaround before the Test assignment.
England, Australia T20I And ODI Rankings
England will aim to strengthen their position at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I team rankings during the Australia tour. They currently have the same rating points as Australia, with the two sides closely matched in the standings.
In the ODI rankings, England are placed sixth, while Australia, the reigning ODI World Cup champions, sealed fourth position.
The white-ball tour will provide England with an important opportunity to assess their squad in Australian conditions, particularly as they continue preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
