Punjab Kings (PBKS) are reportedly close to a blockbuster trade with Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027. India fast-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya is likely to move to PBKS as part of the proposed deal, while fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod are expected to join Mumbai Indians.

According to a report in The Hindu, discussions between the two franchises have reached an advanced stage, with the senior managements believed to have agreed on the player exchange. The paperwork is expected to be completed with the IPL authorities, while an official announcement could come later this week.

The proposed trade comes just days before the November 17 retention deadline and could become one of the biggest moves ahead of the next IPL season.

Why Are Punjab Kings Interested In Hardik Pandya?

Ricky Ponting-led Punjab Kings eyeing to bring in an experienced all-rounder in their squad ahead of IPL 2027. Hardik's ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes him an attractive option for the franchise.

Interestingly, the first approach is said to have been made by a senior Mumbai Indians official, who inquired about the possibility of trading the all-rounder.

Punjab were interested in signing Hardik but reportedly, the discussions turned to Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod as possible players to be included in the deal.

Arshdeep's possible departure would be a big decision for PBKS, considering his importance to their pace attack over the last few seasons.

KKR Also Explored A Deal For Hardik Pandya

Mumbai Indians had reportedly spoken to at least three franchises about a possible trade involving Hardik. Apart from Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders were the only other team whose discussions with Mumbai progressed to an advanced stage. KKR had also explored the possibility of a multi-player deal to bring the India all-rounder into their squad.

However, with Punjab now appearing to be ahead in the race, it remains to be seen whether Kolkata will make another move for a different player from the Mumbai Indians squad.

Arshdeep Singh Trade Could Be Another PBKS Deal

If Arshdeep ends up in Mumbai, there could be further changes in the Punjab Kings. According to reports, PBKS are keen on approaching Lucknow Super Giants for a possible trade involving left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.

With Hardik potentially joining the team, Stoinis could have a reduced role in Punjab's plans. Mohsin, meanwhile, is believed to be highly rated by the franchise's management, although his fitness remains an important factor.

Arshdeep was released by Punjab Kings ahead of the 2025 mega auction but was brought back using the Right to Match (RTM) card.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had raised their bid from ₹15.75 crore to ₹18 crore, but PBKS decided to match the offer and retain the left-arm pacer.

Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians Saga

Hardik returned to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024 season in an all-cash trade deal from Gujarat Titans. He spent two highly successful years with Gujarat, guiding the franchise to the IPL title in its first season in 2022 and then to the final in 2023.

However, his return to Mumbai has not produced the results the franchise would have hoped for. Despite taking over the captaincy, MI have struggled for consistency and finished near the bottom of the points table twice during his three seasons as skipper.
