Delhi Capitals have appointed former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas as their fast-bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2027 season, continuing the franchise's overhaul of its coaching and support staff.
Vaas, one of Sri Lanka's most accomplished fast bowlers, replaces former India pacer Munaf Patel, who held the role over the previous two IPL seasons. The appointment adds considerable international experience to a backroom staff led by former India captain Sourav Ganguly.
The franchise announced the development on Saturday through its official X handle, welcoming the former Sri Lankan pacer with the message, "World Cup winner and Sri Lanka's best ever. Welcome to Tiger Territory, coach."

Chaminda Vaas Joins Delhi Capitals Coaching Staff
Vaas brings an impressive international record to Delhi Capitals. He claimed 355 wickets in 111 Test matches and 400 wickets in One-Day Internationals, establishing himself as one of Sri Lanka's most successful fast bowlers.
A key member of Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup-winning team, Vaas was renowned for his ability to swing the new ball, maintain accuracy and deliver effective spells across different playing conditions. His experience could prove valuable as Delhi Capitals look to improve their bowling performances in the upcoming season.
The former pacer has also built an extensive coaching résumé. He served as Sri Lanka's bowling coach across multiple stints, including a spell between 2013 and 2015. He also worked briefly with New Zealand before taking up the bowling coach role with Ireland for the 2016 T20 World Cup, later returning to the Sri Lankan setup.
Vaas is no stranger to the IPL either, having represented the now-defunct Deccan Chargers between 2008 and 2010 during the league's early seasons.
Sourav Ganguly Leads Revamped Delhi Capitals Setup
The appointment of Vaas follows other significant changes to Delhi Capitals' coaching structure. Sourav Ganguly is leading the support staff as head coach, while former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed batting and assistant coach.
The franchise has also parted ways with several members of its previous setup as it prepares for the next season. Venugopal Rao, who served as director of cricket, head coach Hemang Badani and bowling coach Munaf Patel are among those who have exited.
The changes coincide with a shift in the franchise's management cycle. Delhi Capitals are jointly owned by the GMR Group and JSW Group, which alternate responsibility for managing the team in a biennial arrangement. GMR's management tenure ended in 2026, with JSW taking over.

Delhi Capitals Target Maiden IPL Title
Despite being one of the established franchises in the Indian Premier League, Delhi Capitals are still searching for their maiden title. Their best campaign came in 2020, when they reached the final but lost to Mumbai Indians.
The franchise has also struggled to maintain consistency in recent seasons, missing out on the playoffs in the last two editions.
With Vaas strengthening the bowling department and Yuvraj bringing his batting expertise to the setup, Delhi Capitals will hope the revamped coaching team can help build a more competitive squad for IPL 2027.
