Pathum Nissanka has been ruled out of Sri Lanka’s squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series in Pakistan after failing to get medical clearance, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed on Thursday.
The opening batter was included in the squad announced on October 4, but his participation depended on his recovery from a hamstring injury. Nissanka picked up the injury during Sri Lanka’s tour of England and subsequently missed the three-match T20I series against Pakistan.
Lahiru Udara Replaces Nissanka
Sri Lanka have named wicketkeeper-batter Lahiru Udara as Nissanka’s replacement for the tri-series. Udara is yet to make his ODI debut but has played five Tests and seven T20Is for the national team.
The 29-year-old was part of Sri Lanka’s T20I squads for the series against England in September and Pakistan earlier this month. He made an impact in the opening T20I against Pakistan, scoring 91 runs to register his maiden half-century in the format.
Udara has also shown his ability in Test cricket. He scored 188 against the West Indies in July 2026, registering his maiden Test century.
Nissanka Remains In Sri Lanka’s Test Squad
Although Nissanka will miss the ODI tri-series, he remains part of Sri Lanka’s 15-member squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Pakistan. The series is scheduled to begin on November 9, but his availability will depend on his fitness.
Sri Lanka will hope the opener recovers in time for the Test assignments, with his return to action still subject to medical clearance.
Pakistan ODI Tri-Series To Begin On October 18
The ODI tri-series will feature Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England, with the opening match scheduled to take place on October 18. The tri-series final will take place on October 31.
