India captain Shreyas Iyer received the Impact Player of the Series medal after the five-match T20I series against the West Indies ended in a 2-2 draw. The final match was washed out due to rain at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.
The BCCI shared a video from the Indian dressing room on Sunday, showing training assistant Nuwan Seneviratne presenting the medal to Iyer. The award recognised the batter’s impressive performances during the series, including his maiden T20I century.
Shreyas Iyer Shines With The Bat Against West Indies
Iyer finished the series as India’s third-highest run-scorer, scoring 181 runs in five innings at an average of 45.25 and a strike rate of 205.68.
His biggest contribution came in the series opener in Lucknow, where he scored his maiden T20I century. With that knock, Iyer became the seventh Indian men’s cricketer to score a century in all three international formats.
Apart from his runs, Iyer also impressed with his work in the field. He was one of the key contributors for India in the series and his performances were consistent.
India-West Indies T20I series washed out by rain
India won the 1st and 3rd T20Is while West Indies fought back to win the 2nd and 4th T20Is. With the series level at 2-2, both teams were hoping to settle the contest in the final game in Bengaluru.
However, rain prevented any play in the fifth T20I, forcing the match to be abandoned. The two sides eventually shared the series trophy.
