Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has threatened legal action against the organisers of the World T20 Continent Cup after alleging that his name was included in the tournament’s participant list without his knowledge or permission.

The former Indian cricketer made it clear that he had not consented to participate in the event and requested the media not to look into the unauthorized press releases about his involvement in the event.

Dhawan conveyed his point in a post made on X, as stated above. He also confirmed that his team is taking the necessary legal course of action against the organizers of the event.

Dhawan's Words

“I have come across my name as a participant in the World T20 Continent Cup. My name has been used by the organisers without my knowledge or permission, and my team will be taking the appropriate legal steps to address this,” Dhawan wrote.

The former opener also appealed to journalists and fans to verify any claims about his participation before sharing them publicly.

“I request the media and my fans to not report or rely on any unauthorised announcements. Thank you for your continued love and support,” he added.

What Is The World T20 Continent Cup?

The World T20 Continent Cup Season 1 is scheduled to take place in Hong Kong in December 2026. The tournament is expected to feature 49 retired cricketers divided into four teams representing different continents: Asia Warriors, Europe Champions, Africa Lions and North America Eagles.

The proposed competition has drawn attention for its mix of former international players, including the reported inclusion of cricketers from India and Pakistan. However, Dhawan’s statement makes it clear that his name appearing on a participant list should not be taken as confirmation of his involvement.

The organisers are yet to be addressed in Dhawan’s public statement beyond his allegation that his name was used without permission.
