Former India captain and ex-chief selector Kris Srikkanth believes Virat Kohli is still India's biggest hope of winning the 2027 ODI World Cup, even though the team has several issues to solve before the tournament in South Africa.
Kohli, who is now 37, looked in good touch during India's recent three-match ODI series in England, scoring two half-centuries. Despite questions about his age and how long he will continue playing one-day cricket, he has shown that he remains one of India's most dependable batters. His performances have also ended any debate over the No. 3 batting position.
However, the series also highlighted some concerns for India. The team still lacks a reliable pace-bowling all-rounder whenever Hardik Pandya is unavailable because of injuries. The batting order has not looked settled, and the bowling attack is still searching for the right balance. As things stand, India may once again depend heavily on Kohli to deliver in crucial matches.
Speaking on Star Sports, Srikkanth praised Kohli's experience and commitment.
Srikkanth also spoke about Rohit Sharma, whose future in ODI cricket continues to be discussed. Although there have been rumours about his place in the team, Rohit's record-breaking century at Lord's reminded everyone of his value.

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has emerged as a strong backup option. He has scored two centuries in his last three ODI innings and has shown he can perform in different conditions.
The selectors, however, face a difficult decision. India are unlikely to take all three of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan to the World Cup because it could upset the squad balance. Since Kishan also serves as a backup wicketkeeper, the team management will have to carefully decide which two players fit best into the final squad.
