Sai Sudharsan created an unwanted IPL record during Gujarat Titans’ (GT) Qualifier 1 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after getting dismissed hit wicket bizarrely for the second time in his career.
The unusual moment took place in the third over of GT’s massive chase of 255 in Dharamsala. Facing RCB pacer Jacob Duffy, Sudharsan attempted a cut shot that initially looked headed for a boundary. But within seconds, RCB players erupted in celebration as the opener stood stunned in the middle.

While completing the shot, Sudharsan lost grip of his bat. It slipped out of his hands, bounced on the pitch, and gently clipped the off stump, leading to a rare hit-wicket dismissal. GT captain Shubman Gill was left visibly shocked as Sudharsan slowly walked back to the pavilion.
With this dismissal, Sai Sudharsan became the first player in IPL history to be dismissed hit wicket twice in such strange fashion.
Interestingly, the first incident also involved the Gujarat Titans opener. During IPL 2022 against Mumbai Indians, Sudharsan suffered a nearly identical dismissal. Facing a short ball from Kieron Pollard, he went for a pull shot but missed it completely. The bat slipped from his bottom hand and crashed into the stumps.

The rare dismissal once again proved costly for Gujarat Titans, as Sudharsan’s wicket triggered a dramatic batting collapse. Chasing a daunting 255-run target, GT lost five wickets inside the powerplay and failed to recover.
Overall, Sudharsan became only the 20th batter in IPL history to be dismissed hit wicket. Before this match, the latest player to fall in this manner was Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis, who was out hit wicket for Gujarat Titans during the IPL 2025 Eliminator against Mumbai Indians.
