Rovman Powell capitalized on a reprieve, courtesy of Azam Khan's drop catch, to unleash a match-winning performance that propelled Dubai Capitals to their maiden ILT20 championship title.

The Capitals' pursuit of 190 got off to a rocky start, with David Warner falling to David Payne and Mohammad Amir claiming the scalps of Gulbadin Naib and Sam Billings.

Notably, Billings had been dropped by Amir just three deliveries prior to his dismissal.

The Vipers thought they had struck again when Nathan Sowter appeared to stump Rovman Powell down the leg side, but the third umpire intervened, spotting that Azam Khan's gloves had touched the stumps before collecting the ball, resulting in a crucial no-ball call.

The no-ball call proved to be a pivotal moment in the game, as Rovman Powell, who was struggling at 2 off 6, seized the opportunity to shift the momentum in the Capitals' favor.

Powell suddenly found his rhythm, smashing a six off Nathan Sowter, followed by a blistering 15-run assault on Tom Curran's next over, which included two fours and a six.

As Powell gained momentum, his partner Shai Hope also picked up the pace, hitting Sowter for a six, as the Capitals amassed 21 runs in the next two overs, breathing new life into their chase.

With 38 runs required off 19 deliveries, Sikandar Raza took charge to steer the Capitals to victory. In the 19th over, Raza unleashed a flurry of boundaries, hitting three fours off four balls to bring the equation down to just nine runs needed off the final over.

With the match all but won, Raza applied the finishing touches in style, smashing Khuzaima Tanveer for a six and a four off the first two balls of the last over, sealing the win for the Capitals in a thrilling finale.

Earlier, the Capitals got off to a great start after winning the toss. The Desert Vipers posted a competitive total of 189/5, thanks in large part to the batting exploits of Max Holden and Sam Curran.

Holden led the charge with a 51-ball 76, while Curran provided a late-innings surge with an unbeaten 33-ball 62, propelling the Vipers to a formidable score.
