Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the recruitment of cricket luminaries Jonty Rhodes, Bharat Arun, and former national physiotherapist Alex Kountouri to facilitate advanced training programs for local coaches, trainers, and physiotherapists. The initiative aims to enhance the skills and competencies of professionals involved in Sri Lanka's cricket ecosystem through periodic training sessions in selected areas.
The decision was disclosed during an Executive Committee meeting of the SLC. The board expressed its commitment to elevating the standards of coaching, training, and physiotherapy in the country by leveraging the expertise of these renowned figures in the cricketing world.
Additionally, the SLC has introduced an award to recognize and compensate junior cricketers who exhibit exceptional performance in Sri Lanka's school cricket tournaments. This award will be presented to cricketers at the Under-15 and Under-17 levels, encouraging and acknowledging young talent.
Furthermore, the board is contemplating the initiation of an Under-21 program, specifically designed for individuals who lack a clear pathway after school cricket.
In a move to incentivize and appreciate the contributions of retiring umpires, scorers, and referees, the board has decided to introduce rewards starting in 2024. Moreover, the pay for players participating in the National Super League will be increased, reflecting the board's commitment to the welfare and development of cricketing talent in Sri Lanka.
