Sri Lanka have suffered a major setback ahead of the second Test against the West Indies, with four players ruled out due to injuries and illness. The second and final Test of the series begins on Friday (July 3), with Sri Lanka looking to bounce back after trailing 1-0.

Who all are out from Sri Lanka squad?

Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, Ramesh Mendis and Pathum Nissanka are all unavailable for selection.

Nissanka played in the opening Test but had a difficult outing, scoring just 2 and 3 while opening the batting with Nishan Madushka. After the match, he continued to feel pain in his wrist. Following medical advice, he left for the United Kingdom on June 30 to undergo surgery.

Fast bowler Lahiru Kumara also featured in the first Test but was forced off the field after bowling just one over. He injured his right hamstring while starting his second over and could not continue. Sri Lanka Cricket later confirmed that he suffered a Grade 1 hamstring tear and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Kumara’s absence was badly felt during the match as the West Indies piled up 626/9. Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase shared a record 401-run partnership, while Sri Lanka ran short of bowling options. As a result, Kamindu Mendis, who rarely bowls in Test cricket, had to deliver nine overs.

Meanwhile, Vishwa Fernando has also been ruled out after his lower back, trunk and hip pain returned during the warm-up match before the first Test. Although he has made steady progress over the past week, Sri Lanka Cricket said he has not fully recovered in time for the second Test.

Off-spinner Ramesh Mendis is also unavailable after contracting a bacterial infection during the tour. He is still recovering and will not be considered for selection.

With four players unavailable, Sri Lanka now face a tough challenge as they look to level the two-match series against the West Indies in Antigua.
