Team India Injury News: Team India's selection committee, under the chairmanship of Ajit Agarkar, has not asked for a replacement for spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar, who is part of India‘s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad. As per a report by Cricbuzz, Sundar is unlikely to be a part of the team’s first Group A match against the United States of America, scheduled to take place on Saturday (February 7).
Sundar, who played his last international game against New Zealand on January 11, has been away from action due to injury. Featuring in 55 matches for India, Sundar has claimed 51 wickets with 254 runs under his kitty.
The report further stated that the 26-year-old remains a part of India's plans for the T20 World Cup 2026 as Indian selectors are waiting for the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) to provide more details on Sundar’s recovery.
“How long the team management and selectors will wait is not clear, but as of now they are in no rush to replace the Tamil Nadu all-rounder. Evidently, the final decision will depend on the advice of the trainers and physios of CoE, and they do not seem to have given up hope of Sundar’s readiness for the marquee event as yet," the report read.
