IPL 2025 Retentions: In what has come as a big surprise ahead of the IPL 2025 retentions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru is all set to re-appoint Virat Kohli as their skipper. Kohli, who had led the side from the front, between 2013 to 2021, relinquished this position in the 14th season of this cash-rich league. Faf Du Plessis led this team from 2022 to 2024. But, before this mega-auction, the franchise has decided to bring a new change, as there are speculations that Kohli would be leading the side again.

Virat Kohli isn't an international captain anymore. It should be noted here that he announced retirement from the shortest format after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. As per a Times Of India report, Kohli would be leading the franchise again.

Kohli decided to relinquish this position before the 2021 edition ended. A lot of people reckoned that he made this decision after the team's inability to lift an IPL trophy under his captaincy. But even after his resignation, the fate of their future remained unchanged.

In 2021, after he decided to step down as RCB skipper, Kohli revealed, "I will continue to be an RCB player till I play my last game in the IPL. But it's been a great journey of nine years of joy, frustration, moments of happiness, and sadness, and I just want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me and believing in me relentlessly and unconditionally. And I will continue to be committed to playing for this franchise as I said till the last day of me playing IPL... for you guys, for the fans, because of what you've done for me and how you've made me feel over the last so many years that is going to stay with me for the rest of my life".

With Kohli becoming the skipper once again means that the franchise won't be retaining Faf Du Plessis. There were also speculations that the franchise did try to convince Shubman Gill for this position but he insisted on staying with Gujarat Titans for another season.
