Virat Kohli turned the second ODI against England at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff into another memorable chapter of his career. The former India captain looked in complete control as he scored a fluent half-century and, in the process, broke several major records across ODI and international cricket.

Here are all the milestones Kohli achieved during his innings.

Most ODI runs in matches played at the opposition’s home

Kohli became the highest run-scorer in ODI matches played in the home country of the opposition. He went past former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, who had scored 5,518 runs in 149 such matches.

Kohli crossed the landmark after reaching 46 runs in Cardiff. What makes the achievement even more impressive is that he reached the record in just his 126th ODI in opposition conditions.

He also moved closer to another major milestone, becoming one of the few batters in world cricket to approach 8,000 ODI runs away from home.

India’s highest run-scorer in international cricket in England

Kohli also overtook Rahul Dravid to become the Indian batter with the most international runs in England.

The Delhi batter needed only four runs at the start of the innings to move past Dravid’s tally of 2,645 runs. A boundary off Jofra Archer helped him claim the record.

Kohli has now scored more than 2,646 international runs in England across Tests, ODIs and T20Is, adding another remarkable achievement to his career.

Equals Viv Richards’ ODI record against England

Kohli’s half-century was his 14th score of 50 or more in ODIs against England, helping him draw level with West Indies legend Viv Richards.

Both players now have 14 fifty-plus scores against England in ODI cricket, made up of three centuries and 11 half-centuries.

Only Kumar Sangakkara, with 15 scores of 50 or more against England, sits ahead of them on the all-time list.

Moves past Sachin Tendulkar in ODI runs against England

During the innings, Kohli also overtook Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 1,455 ODI runs against England.

The milestone lifted him to second place among Indian batters with the most ODI runs against England. Only former captain MS Dhoni, who scored 1,546 runs against the English side, remains ahead of him.

On the overall list, former West Indies opener Chris Gayle continues to hold the record with 1,632 ODI runs against England.

Another reminder of Kohli’s consistency

The innings in Cardiff was much more than just another half-century. It once again highlighted Kohli’s ability to perform in overseas conditions and against top-quality opposition.

From becoming India’s leading international run-scorer in England to breaking Kumar Sangakkara’s long-standing ODI record, the 37-year-old added multiple milestones in a single innings. Even after more than 15 years in international cricket, Kohli continues to rewrite the record books and strengthen his place among the game’s all-time greats.
