Batting stalwart Virat Kohli produced another memorable ODI innings as he smashed his 55th century in the format during the first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kohli reached his hundred in just 74 balls and remained unbeaten as India chased down the 296-run target with eight wickets in hand and 42 overs to spare.

The former India captain also shared a 151-run partnership with skipper Shubman Gill for the second wicket. Apart from guiding India to a comfortable win, Kohli also achieved several major milestones during his knock, including becoming only the second batter to score 15,000 runs in ODI cricket.

Here are the major records and milestones Kohli achieved in the first ODI against West Indies:

Fastest to 15,000 ODI runs

Kohli became only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to cross 15,000 runs in ODI cricket.

While Tendulkar needed 377 innings to reach the landmark, Kohli got there in just 303 innings, 74 innings fewer than the legendary Indian batter.

Joint-most List A centuries

The century was Kohli’s 60th in List A cricket. He reached the milestone in his 338th innings and equalled Tendulkar’s record for the most List A hundreds.

Most ODI runs at home

Kohli also went past Tendulkar’s tally of 6,976 ODI runs in India.

With his latest knock, he became the first batter to score more than 7,000 ODI runs on home soil.

Most centuries in a country

Kohli’s hundred was his 42nd international century across formats in India.

He is now level with Tendulkar, who also has 42 international hundreds in India, for the most centuries scored by a batter in a single country.

Most centuries in ODI chases

Kohli continued to strengthen his already impressive record in ODI chases.

His hundred was his 30th century while batting second in the format. Rohit Sharma is second on the list with 18.

More impressively, 25 of Kohli’s 30 centuries in ODI chases have come in matches India eventually won, the most of any batter.

Most ODI centuries against a single opponent

Kohli’s 10th ODI century against West Indies saw him equal his own record for the most hundreds against one opponent.

He had previously scored 10 ODI centuries against Sri Lanka, with his last one also coming in Thiruvananthapuram.

Career-best strike rate and most sixes in an ODI innings

Kohli smashed nine sixes during his unbeaten innings, going past his previous best of eight sixes, which he hit against Sri Lanka in 2023 at the same venue.

His nine sixes are also the second-most by an Indian batter in an ODI chase. MS Dhoni holds the record with 10 sixes against Sri Lanka.

The knock also pushed Kohli’s career ODI strike rate above 94 for the first time.
