India bowling coach Morne Morkel believes having Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma around the team remains extremely valuable, especially for captain Shubman Gill and the younger players.
Ahead of the first ODI against the West Indies, Morkel spoke about the role the two senior batters continue to play in the Indian dressing room.
Morkel Praises Shubman Gill’s Leadership
Gill has taken over as India’s ODI captain, and Morkel feels the young skipper has handled the responsibility well so far.
While Gill is now leading the side, Morkel believes the presence of experienced players such as Kohli and Rohit can make a big difference.
Kohli, Rohit Still Have An Important Role
According to Morkel, senior players can influence the team in many ways beyond their performances on the field.

Kohli and Rohit have spent years playing international cricket and have dealt with different situations during their careers. The Indian team management wants the younger players to make the most of that experience.
Young Players Encouraged To Speak To Seniors
Morkel said the team is making a conscious effort to create opportunities for younger players to interact with Kohli and Rohit.
He added that team meetings are also being used to encourage the senior players to share their experiences with the rest of the squad.
“We always throw out as many questions as possible in team meetings for the senior guys to speak and to share their experience,” Morkel added.
India batting trio Shubman, Virat and Rohit will now be seen featuring in the three-match ODI series against West Indies which will start from September 27.
