South Africa captain Temba Bavuma and wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock were involved in a heated exchange during the second ODI against Australia on Sunday, with footage of the incident quickly spreading on social media.

The incident took place during the 48th over when Lizaad Williams struck Xavier Bartlett on the pads. South Africa made a strong appeal for LBW, but the on-field umpire was not convinced and turned it down.

The South African players then had a discussion over whether they should use their DRS review. Bavuma eventually decided to go upstairs, and the decision went in South Africa’s favour. Replays showed the ball hitting the stumps, with three reds on the review. Here is the video: 

Bartlett, who had played a quick knock of 50 off 28 balls, was given out.

Marco Jansen steps in

However, the DRS review also caught attention for another reason. Bavuma and de Kock appeared to have a heated disagreement while discussing the review, with both players seen pointing fingers during the exchange.

The conversation became tense before Marco Jansen stepped in and appeared to calm de Kock down. The wicketkeeper-batter then walked away from the group.

South Africa continue winning run

South Africa went on to complete their sixth straight bilateral ODI series win over Australia. They also successfully defended the fifth-highest total ever recorded at the Wanderers.

The match was played as part of the annual Pink Day fixture, which raises money for breast cancer awareness and treatment. The event has now reached its 14th edition, with South Africa winning 10 of those matches.

Miller, Bavuma lead South Africa

This year’s Pink Day match had a special touch, with South African players replacing their own names on the back of their shirts with the names of breast cancer fighters or survivors.

David Miller wore the name of his mother, Jenny, and marked the occasion with a career-best 142. His innings helped South Africa post a match-winning total.

Miller also put together a 156-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Bavuma. The South African captain scored a century as well, marking his first ODI hundred at his home ground in Johannesburg.
